Helping Horseshoe Therapeutic Riding Club
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are desperately needed as leaders and sidewalkers to assist students when riding.
The Leader is in charge of the horse at all times before, during and after a lesson. The Leader is to walk the horse around the arena a few times to warm up the horse before the lesson. While the leader is waiting to help mount the student, the horse should be kept walking around the arena. This person should be knowledgeable and experienced regarding horses, and feel comfortable handling horses in difficult situations. The Leader should check tack is fitted properly before and after each rider mounts the horse. The Leader assists with mounting and dismounting. The Leader assists the Instructor before, during and after class.
The Sidewalker is in charge of the rider at all times before, during and after a lesson. The Sidewalker should greet the students when they arrive and ensure they are ready to ride when the class starts. The Sidewalker assists with mounting and dismounting. The Sidewalker should help the student focus attention on the instructor as well as ensure student learning and safety at all times. The Sidewalker should escort the student out of the riding ring when the lesson is over. The Sidewalker assists the Instructor before, during and after class.
A volunteer training session is offered for new volunteers to fully learn the program and position responsibilities. A Volunteer Rewards program is also in place. To learn more about the Helping Horseshoe volunteer program, or register as a volunteer, please call:
