Helping Horseshoe Facility and Staff
Helping Horseshoe Therapeutic Riding Club is located at Yellow Iris Farm
in Newton, New Jersey. Yellow Iris Farm is a 39-acre facility just seven miles
west of the center of Newton. The wheelchair accessible facility offers an
outdoor and indoor arena equipped with a handicapped mounting block and riding
equipment to meet the needs of our special students. Kara Stark McGrew has been
the manager trainer and instructor for Yellow Iris Farm since 1994. Kara has
been involved with horses most of her life, beginning her lessons at age 9.
Kara furthered her education by attending Stephens College in Columbia,
Missouri earning a BS in Equestrian Science and a BA in Business
Administration. Kara is the Head Instructor and Education Director at Helping
Horseshoe. She is the only instructor for the program as well as manages barn
facilities and trains all horses involved in the program. Lorrie Patton is the
Volunteer Director at the Helping Horseshoe and is responsible for organizing
all volunteers for each class at the beginning of each session as well as
ensuring volunteers for each class during the session. Lorrie interacts with
volunteers during lessons and answer any questions, organizes volunteer
paperwork and contacts any new or prospect volunteers. Lorries patient
personality and consistent hard work ensures quality classes at the Helping
Horseshoe.
