Set-Up Instructions: MAC OS 8

The following instructions are for setting up the MAC OS8 dialer.

NOTE: If you obtained the Macintosh set-up disks from Tellurian Networks, disregard them. DO NOT install the Tellurian Networks disks on a computer with MAC OS8 - the software will not work properly and as a result you will have to reload a portion of your operating system.

Step 1

The first thing you want to do is find the Internet Set-up Assistant application on your hard drive. This is done by clicking on the File menu then by clicking on the Find. The Find File window should open up. In the blank field type internet, then click Find. The Items Found window should open up. Scroll down the window until you read, Internet Set-up Assistant. Double click on the corresponding application program (the file that's 370k) and the internet configuration proccess will begin.

Step 2

If the previous step was done correctly you should be looking at a window that says Internet Set-up Assistant on the top.

Click the Update button.

NOTE: The number to the left of each statement below corresponds with the step number in the bottom right of the set-up window/windows.

  1. The Introduction window will open up providing a general description about the steps you are about to go through. Click the right arrow to procceed.

  2. Make sure that Add Internet configuration is checked. Then press the right arrow.

  3. Type Tellurian Networks in the blank field and make sure that it is set to connect with a modem. Press the right arrow.

  4. In the Modem Settings window make sure that your modem is highlighted, that the correct port your modem is connected to is in the Port box (usually the Modem Port) and make sure that the dialing method is set to Tone. Press the right arrow.

  5. Now you should be looking at the Configuration information window. To retrive the nessary information to completete this page from the Account Information sheet you recieved with your set-up package. The number to connect is the "POP Number", the user ID is the "Login" and the password is the same on both forms. Press the right arrow.

  6. There is no IP address for this configuration so make sure the No button is pressed. Press the right arrow.

  7. Now it asks for the server information. There are two DNS addresses and they are 216.182.1.1 and 216.182.1.2. The Domain Name is tellurian.com Press the right arrow.

  1. In the e-mail address field type your username@tellurian.com then type your password in the lower field. Press the right arrow.

  2. Type your full e-mail address in the top field and type mail.tellurian.com in the lower field. Press the right arrow.

  3. Type news.tellurian.com in the blank field. Press the right arrow.

  1. Now press the Go Ahead button and your computer should dial up and connect to the internet.

Step 3

Once connected you can use any internet application you wish - i.e.: Internet Explorer. For instructions on configuring Internet Explorer, see our Macintosh Internet Explorer instructions.

Periodically check the Mac support news groups for all the current information on the Macintosh OS. One starting point is the Apple home page.
